【 ゴミから成る村 ( 垃圾堆成的村 ) 】movie
[ A Village Made of Garbage ]
We drive 5 minutes from the capital Accra,
and head from the city center toward Agbogbloshie.
It is known as the "graveyard of e-waste" and is directly behind Makola Market,
Accra's largest shopping district.
It is more than 30 times the size of the Tokyo Dome.
Many people live here.
According to a local friend,
"Ghanaians call this place Sodom & Gomorrah.
( The Biblical city destroyed by sulfur and fire from heaven )
The locals go so far as to call it a graveyard . . .
It's a place no one wants to go."
Many of the people who live here came to Accra from the savanna region of
northern Ghana in search of work.
However, they are unable to find such and eventually end up in Agbogbloshie.
So why do so many people come from that region?
Northern Ghana is suffering from climate change,
which is causing water and food shortages,
deforestation,and a variety of other problems.
Many people in this region die in their 30s.
What kind of place is this?
My friends and I have been involved with support activities in this area
for many years,
so we had the opportunity to meet the village chief and see the site.
